Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is the most common thermoplastic polyester packaging film and is often called just “polyester”. PET exists both as an amorphous (transparent) and as a semicrystalline (opaque and white) thermoplastic material.
Semicrystalline PET has good strength, ductility, stiffness, and hardness. Amorphous PET has better ductility but less stiffness and hardness. It absorbs very little water.
