Characteristics and applications of PS plastic

PS plastic, PS (polystyrene plastic) refers to a type of plastic that includes styrene groups in the macromolecular chain, including styrene and its copolymers. Specific varieties include general polystyrene (GPPS), high-impact polystyrene Ethylene (HIPS), expandable polystyrene (EPS) and metallocene polystyrene (SPS), etc. PS is widely used in the optical industry because of its good light transmittance. It can be used to make optical glass and optical instruments, as well as transparent or brightly colored products, such as lampshades, lighting fixtures, etc. PS can also produce many electrical components and instruments that work in high-frequency environments. Since PS plastic is a difficult-to-inert surface material, professional PS glue is required for industrial lamination.

Characteristics of plastic PS

1. Environmentally friendly, recyclable, no harmful substances, no odor, no pollution, green and environmentally friendly.

2. The products made are diverse.

3. The products produced can be recycled and recycled.

4. Good light transmission effect, the light transmittance can reach 88%-92%.

5. The surface is shiny, easy to dye, and has a good aesthetic decorative effect.

6. High hardness, good rigidity, relatively strong and durable.

7. It has good water resistance and is not easily damaged when soaked in water.

8. It has good chemical corrosion resistance and is not easy to be decomposed and damaged.

9. Colorless, tasteless and odorless.

Plastic PS processing technology

1. Injection molding

Just use an ordinary injection molding machine. When the thickness of the product is in the range of 2.3 to 3mm, the ratio of the limit flow length to the thickness is 200:1, the demoulding slope is not less than 1°, and the depth of the exhaust hole and exhaust groove is less than 0.03mm. The temperature difference between the film and mold is less than 3~6℃. The specific injection molding process conditions are: molding temperature 180~215℃, injection pressure 30~150MPa, mold temperature lower than 70℃.

2.Extrusion

It can be processed on an ordinary extruder, and the extruded products include pipes, rods, sheets, films, fibers, etc. The strength is low and brittle when not stretched after forming. After stretching, the transparency, gloss, strength and toughness are significantly improved. The extrusion molding temperature of PS is between 150 and 200°C.

3. Foam molding

Using GPPS as raw material, the foaming agent is divided into two types: chemical foaming agent and physical foaming agent. Use one-step extrusion method, directly mix the foaming agent and PS or inject the physical foaming agent into the PS melt in the extrusion melting section, extrusion foaming and cooling. Foam plastics made from GPPS have the advantages of fine cells and high strength.

Application of plastic PS

1. Production of electronic appliances: connectors, switch parts, household appliances, accessories and parts, small electric covers.

2. Used as car parts, mainly exterior parts, including corner grilles, engine escutcheons, etc.; internal parts, mainly including mirror stays, wiper brackets and control system valves. Automotive electrical parts, such as automotive ignition coil strands and various electrical connectors.

3. Production of mechanical equipment: belt drive shafts for video tape recorders, computer covers, mercury lampshades, iron covers, baking machine parts, and a large number of gears, cams, buttons, electronic watch casings, and camera parts (with heat-resistant , flame retardant requirements)

4. Used in optical industry

It can be used in the optical industry to make optical glass and optical instruments, and can also be used to make lampshades and lighting equipment of various colors.
